Singing Universe – 11 x 14″ (Small Works) – Mixed Media on board
This is the second in a series of paintings that were inspired by some worn sheet music I found in a thrift store. I love the idea of including ‘music’ in the painting as my art has an inherent sense of musicality to it. The painting then becomes a song.

MoonLight – 40 x 55″ – $3,500 Acrylic on canvas
“If somebody asked me to choose between the sun and the moon as a place to live,
I would choose the moon. In my mind, there are highways with 10 lanes on the sun,
but the moon has alleys and narrow streets I can explore on foot.
For me, the sun is a destination,
but the moon is a gateway and a peep-hole to an unknown world.”

Viriditas I – 24″ x 36″ – Acrylic on paper – Original $2,500 Sold, fine art print available
This painting was inspired by Hildegard of Bingen a nun who lived in the 11th century, and who created the word Viriditas which means the green, rich, moist, nourishment of our outer and inner worlds. A nourishing greening power, fruitfulness, creativity. Creativity being greening power in motion, making all things new, grow, expand and celebrate.
“I am the breeze that nurtures all things green.
I encourage blossoms to flourish with ripening fruits,
I am the rain coming from the dew
that causes the grasses to laugh…”

Vivace’ II – 32 x 40″ – framed – Acrylic on canvas. $3,500 Sold
The rich blue-greens were inspired by a summer visit to the lush, verdant hills of North Carolina. After having been in the desert for a long period, I felt calmly enveloped and held in the gentleness of deep green. And paradoxically I was energized by the vibrancy of the trees bursting with aliveness and undulating in the mountain breeze along with the meadows scattered with the pinks of the alpine wildflowers.

Secret Mountains III – 8.5 x 12″ -Watercolor on paper $125.
After coming home from the local art store I tore open the plastic wrapping on the watercolor pad of paper I had just purchased. I hadn’t been painting for a while, so I was excitedly anticipating filling the book with color. But as I looked through the pages I saw that many sheets of the paper were distorted, lots of creases in what was supposed to be a uniform texture. I was angry, thinking Instead of painting, I needed to go back to the store and return the sketchbook.
As I settled down and pondered my dilemma, it dawned on me that instead of seeing the distorted paper as a problem, I could ‘use’ the creases as a jumping off point. So, I softened my eyes and saw that the creases were Reminiscent of mountain shapes. I pulled out my watercolor crayons and paints and emphasized the creases, using them for the shape of mountains. These became what I call The Secret Mountain series. Each one guided by the ‘mistakes’ in the paper. What initially appeared to be a problem turned into a fortuitous creation.
